Stage 2 of 7 Stages to Sustainability (7SS) – Assess your social, economic and environmental assets.

In this webinar, featuring special guests: Polly Higgins – the Earth’s lawyer / leader of Eradicating Ecocide Campaign and Prof. Suad Sualiman – leading expert in Local Assets, Global Health and Life, we will explore vivid examples of asset based community development direct from the Sudan.

polly_higginsPolly Higgins is the lawyer who proposed Ecocide as the 5th Crime Against Peace to the UN in 2010. Polly is an international lawyer, barrister and award-winning author. Her most recent book is Earth is our Business: changing the rules of the game which has been hailed as ‘groundbreaking.’ Polly is the author of the award-winning book Eradicating Ecocide: laws and governance to prevent the destruction of our planet. She has been voted one of the “World’s Top 10 Visionary Thinkers” by the Ecologist, named ‘the Planet’s lawyer’ by the 2010 Change Awards and more recently won ‘Campaigner of the Year 2012′ by the PEA Awards. Find out more about Polly, or hear Polly speak.

In discussion: “Shifting our values through the use of the rule of law: from eco-services to Ecocide law”

Polly Higgins will compare two contrasting solutions; putting a price-tag on our Earth to maximise profit versus prohibiting mass damage and destruction. The former, she says, leads to escalating conflict, the latter to peace. Polly will explain how a law of Ecocide creates a new crime – the missing 5th Crime Against Peace.
